Wacky Psystar has hired a Palo Alto law firm known for busting Apple for some big bucks, ChannelWeb reports. Apple is suing Psystar for its fun-time Mac clone computer. Psystar said it was able to deliver way more performance for less money than Apple charged. Apple claimed copyright and trade secret violations.

Miami-based Psystar has hired Carr & Ferrell, a Palo Alto-based firm that represented Burst.com's patent infringement claims against Jobs & Co. Apple settled for $10 mil in 2007; partner Robert Yorio also won $60 mil for Burst from Microsoft.

Psystar has until Aug. 18 to respond to Apple's charges. ChannelWeb says:

Psystar began shipping its Mac-clone PCs in April amid speculation that the company was a hoax as it changed addresses several times over the course of several days.

I said as much at the time. But Psystar turned out, incredibly, to be for real. Look for a settlement and the quiet disappearance of Psystar.
