Singapore, 29 December 1999 -- Multinationals in Singapore can look forward to having a major US-based Internet Service Provider (ISP) to provide ISP services to them in the first quarter of next year.

UUNet is a corporate ISP that plans to leverage on their worldwide network and provide dedicated access and dial-up services to MNCs in the finance, electronics, manufacturing and consumer industries.

The company plans to sign up more than 100 MNCs which are its existing customers in other parts of the world to become users of its Internet services. Its long-term plan is to become Singapore's second largest ISP by the year 2002.

UUNet is part of telco giant MCI Worldcom and they plan to challenge present telco giants SingTel and StarHub once Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) takes off, allowing companies to route their telecom services through ISPs.
