Sony readies new CLIE handhelds

Sony looks set to release a new version of its Palm-based CLIE device with an updated operating system
Written by Matthew Broersma, Contributor

Sony may be about to release a successor to its Palm OS-based handheld computer, the CLIE PEG-N710C, according to reports on the Web.

The PEG-N760C could be announced as early as 17 September in the US, with pre-existing features such as MP3 and ATRAC3 playback, and the addition of an upgraded Palm OS 4.1 operating system. The company has stopped selling the N710C in the US.

Europe's version of the PDA, the N770C, was announced at Germany's IFA 2001 trade show last month, and is expected to be available around the end of September for roughly £400.

Sony could not be immediately contacted for a response.
