Sales figures are from research conducted by the National Retail Federation
of Washington, D.C, covering the 12 months from August 1998 to July 1999. In
most cases, sales figures are estimates made by the Federation. Some sales
figures are lower than what the companies themselves have reported. Web sites
offering financial services, automobiles and travel services were
excluded.
