The Philippine's National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has revised the country's draft rules on the assignment and allocation of 3G licenses and frequency bands, in a bid to propel the technology.

The new draft rules, released last week, pave the way for Philippine telecommunications firms to bid for no more than five 3G licenses in the country. The NTC will be allocating frequency bands as identified by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) for the 3G licenses.

The NTC said in a statement that the new draft rules would ensure that there is an appropriate regulatory framework for the awarding and assigning of 3G licenses, as well as their corresponding frequencies.
