On Dec. 16, the transistor turns 60 and Intel is planning to trumpet the event.

Over the weekend, I culled together a few thoughts based on Intel's timeline, Moore's law and other transistor moments and put them into a gallery. Here's the gallery. The picture below is of the Motorola DynaTAC 800X mobile phone, the first all transistor cell phone. It went for $3,995 at the time and must have been a bear to carry in your pocket.
