From standpipe to fat pipe...

Telco Thus has signed a £13.6m, five-year contract extension with water agency United Utilities Water (UUW).

The extended contract will see more than 6,000 BlackBerrys, mobiles and other telephone units connected across 50 of UUW's sites.

UUW will use Thus' next generation network to provide network coverage and connection to key operation sites - so employees can stay connected to the office while travelling or at a customer's site.

Thus will also provide outsourced managed solutions, mobile voice and data services, telemetry and voice services to the utility company.

Mike Naden, information systems services director at UUW, said the next generation network ensures that as UUW grows and develops the network has the capacity to deliver more advanced services.
