Following the resignation of Duncan Bennet at the end of last year, VMware has announced Alister Dias will join as the company's new vice president and managing director for Australia and New Zealand.

Dias will officially take up the role on April 1, 2016, after serving as vice president and managing director for EMC Australia and New Zealand, and having previously held numerous management positions at other technology firms including CA Technologies and Soft Centre.

Sanjay Mirchandani, VMware's corporate senior vice president and general manager for Asia Pacific and Japan, said Dias' appointment will continue to lead the company through the virtualisation and mobile cloud era.

"I am delighted to welcome Alister on board as we continue to evolve our diversified business portfolio and drive innovation in the datacentre," Mirchandani said.

During Bennet's time with the company, VMware has been working to broaden its business from only delivering server virtualisation services to the entire software-defined datacentre as a response to the changes the IT market has been experiencing.

Until Dias commences his role, VMware said Sharat Sinha, VMware APAC vice president, GTM and general business, will continue as interim general manager for the local business.
