As readers here know I picked up a Sprint HTC EVO 4G on launch day and am pretty happy with the device. I called to cancel my Verizon account with the Palm Pre Plus and have about three days left before my contract ends and I am charged the $290 ETF. I was all set to be pleased with the EVO 4G on Sprint and then Engadget had to go and get my fickle smartphone mind all messed up with their Motorola Droid X preview and now I may have to return the EVO 4G and stick with Verizon and this lovely device.
The Droid X looks and has specifications very similar to the EVO 4G with a 1 GHz processor, large display (4.4 inch vs 4.3 inch on EVO), HDMI out port, 720p video recording capability, and 8 megapixel camera. Swype is preloaded on the Droid X along with 8GB of onboard storage and Android 2.1 with some kind of Motoblur UI. There is no WiMAX radio or LTE that we know of, but the hardware does look pretty amazing. Make sure to check out the full Engadget photo gallery for some sweet photos. I have not owned a Motorola Android device and have had several HTC models so I am a bit interested in trying one out and would like to avoid that Verizon ETF. Then again, I do have decent 4G coverage and Sprint offers more for less in their plans.
If you had to choose between the Droid X or HTC EVO 4G, which would you go for?
