Will the jaws of life work the same for an electric car?

One of my friends had a pretty serious car accident a couple of days ago, which made me sit up and take notice of this item on EarthTechling about emergency and rescue techniques associated with accidents involving electric vehicles. I never really thought about it before, but the construction of these vehicles is definitely different and your typical combustion engine.

Which brings up very practical questions. What's the risk and potential for fire? Are there electric shock hazards for emergency personnel? Will the jaws of life work differently on these chassis?

It definitely makes sense for first responders to get more familiar with electric vehicle equipment, which is the intention of a training program being sponsored by OnStar, Chevrolet, the International Association of Fire Fighters, the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the National Emergency Number Association. The first training sessions will take place at a fire and rescue conference in August.
