Sprint bringing World Cup action to your phone with ESPN Mobile TV

The 2010 FIFA World Cup is only one week away now, and Sprint is partnering with ESPN Mobile TV to bring live coverage of 56 semifinals and final matches to compatible smartphones. If you're a Sprint customer, now you won't have to miss any of the games while traveling or even when you should be working!

To take advantage of what should be an awesome service (depending on the video quality and how good your 3G/4G reception is), Sprint customers will need to have Sprint TV on their smartphones with an applicable data plan. At that point, you should be able to tune into the ESPN Mobile channel for access to viewing matches, recaps and highlights.

Subscribers will also be able to view the semifinals on July 6-7 plus the July 11 final match directly from compatible mobile devices, such as the HTC Evo 4G being released today. (Good timing, eh?)

Watching on a 3 to 4-inch display isn't comparable to watching it on a laptop or an HDTV at a local sports bar (not to mention actually being there in South Africa), but it is a great option for those days where you wouldn't normally have time to stop and watch it on TV.

If for some reason the World Cup doesn't pique your interest, there's plenty of other sporting coverage to be seen this summer with ESPN Mobile TV like MLB, NBA and Grand Slam tennis.
