BT payphones get Net treatment
The Internet hit the high street today when BT unveiled its "new wave" of payphones with web search and email facilities to dramatic fanfare. However, recent developments in mobile phone technology already make the move dated.

Malcom Newing, in charge of the project, is quoted as saying: "Not long ago, people were saying the only new wave for payphones would be to wave them goodbye. They were wrong."
The new payphones will provide access to BT's own email service and modest search capabilities through a small display screen. Not terribly impressive when you consider that earlier in the week British software firm Argo revealed a mobile phone that displays basic elements from any Web page.
