Everest climbers take new VoIP softphone into thin air
Just came across a website called Himalaya 8000. It means what you probably think it does- the site is a running log of a Mount Everest climbing expedition, now in progress.
Seems as though the team is equipped with a PDA running Waivgo, a new softphone from Vancouver, B.C.-based Comm V Communications.
Not being a mountain climber myself, I decided to download the free Windows-compatible Waivgo to my PC and try it from my near-sea level altitude home in Oregon.
I like the interface and the interesting looking dialpad. When I downloaded and installed Waivgo I learned that for now, Waivgo's VoIP is strictly user-to-user. If I knew any Waivo users, I'd already be there, man.
Like nautilius, a Waivgo user who tells our sister site Download.com that he was able to connect with Waivgo users in Israel. "The quality of sound is great," he writes.
Good news: WavOut, Waivgo's phone-out service (think SkypeOut) will be available real soon.
