Hacked iPlayer for Symbian Series 60 in action
ZDNet.co.uk demonstrates how a little hacking can get the BBC's video-on-demand widget to run on a handset it shouldn't support, over a 3G connection that's supposed to be blocked
The BBC's iPlayer video-on-demand widget was released on Wednesday for certain Symbian Series 60 handsets, such as the Nokia N96.
The E71 is not officially supported and the application is only supposed to run over Wi-Fi, so as not to strain mobile operators' data networks. However, as ZDNet.co.uk demonstrates, a simple hack can get past both these restrictions with minimal fuss.
