Polycom Communicator
One of <a href="http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/software/internet/0,39024165,39241872,00.htm">Skype's</a> selling points is its high audio quality, paired with very efficient echo cancellation. On a decent pair of speakers, Skype-to-Skype calls can sound almost as good as a radio broadcast, which leaves notebook owners with tinny output somewhat at a disadvantage.

Altiris Software Virtualization Solution 2.0
If there was ever an application designed to 'blow your socks off', it has to be the Software Virtualisation Solution (SVS) from <a href="http://www.altiris.com">Altiris</a>. Why? Because it lets you install complete Windows applications in seconds, run them without affecting anything else on the host PC, and remove them again just as quickly and easily. Imagine it: using SVS you can check out new application releases without being forced to upgrade the existing version; test beta code without fear of corrupting other programs or data files; reset applications to their just-installed state at the click of a mouse button; and a whole lot more besides.

Sony VAIO VGN-SZ2M
Sony’s SZ series of VAIO notebooks is designed to bring power computing to a reasonably compact and lightweight (sub-2kg) design. The original SZ1 series has been updated with SZ2 systems, all of which sport 1GB of SDRAM as standard. There are versions with built-in fingerprint recognition and a camera above the screen for video conferencing, and both of these features can be found in the £1,361 (ex. VAT) VGN-SZ2XP model. The system supplied to us for review is more basic, and although it's still suitable for many business users, it does come with Windows XP Home rather than Professional.

O2 Xda IQ
Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone operating system has lost a little momentum as SIM-equipped devices running Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC become more varied in form factor, and thus suitable for a wider range of markets. Competition from devices such as Orange's recent SPV M600, which feels like a smartphone in the hand but offers Pocket PC functionality, is a case in point. Nonetheless, the smartphone version of Windows Mobile 5.0 remains popular enough for O2 to launch one with integrated Wi-Fi -- the Xda IQ.
