APC, VMware integration matches power insight to virtual machines

OK, so this may not be the sexiest thing I ever write about, but I'm guessing it's pretty significant. APC by Schneider, which happens to be a leader in infrastructure power delivery and related monitoring activities, has integrated its InfraStruxure Operations application with VMware vSphere.

OK, so this may not be the sexiest thing I ever write about, but I'm guessing it's pretty significant. APC by Schneider, which happens to be a leader in infrastructure power delivery and related monitoring activities, has integrated its InfraStruxure Operations application with VMware vSphere.

InfraStruxure is a platform that encompasses cooling, monitoring and other portions of a data center's physical infrastructure. The technical integration means that IT managers will be able to ensure that virtual machines (VMs) are migrated away from servers that might be experiencing some sort of power issue to server hosts that aren't affected.

This is supposedly the first integration that migrates VMs based on power or cooling concerns. You might even imagine situations where an IT manager might want to manage VM locations proactively based on electricity costs, not necessarily just power problems or concerns. You should be able to download the software for the integration by January 2011.
