Commonwealth Bank users across Australia found themselves unable to make transactions today when the bank suffered a countrywide systems outage.

The outage, which left CommBank's tellers unable to access any account information or make transactions through their terminals, started at around 11.30 this morning.

Some users also reported problems with CommBank's online banking facilities.

One teller in a Sydney branch told ZDNet Australia that such outages are rare but she hoped the problems would be resolved quickly.

"I'd like to be able to tell people 'just go to the branch around the corner' but when one goes down they all go down," she said.

A spokesperson for Commonwealth Bank could not provide any additional information on the cause of the outage.

The spokesperson added that the outage concluded at around 12.30pm. "As I understand it, workarounds were put in place and there was a minimal impact on customers."
