Compaq Computer Corp. today announced an alliance with Click Interactive Inc. to develop and market extranet services to enterprise customers.

As part of the agreement, Compaq will take an equity stake in Click's research and development, sales and marketing and operations. The amount of the investment was not disclosed.

The two companies in tandem will market extranet systems to large companies. Compaq will resell Click's Click Commerce extranet software as part of the Compaq Services portfolio. Click, meanwhile, will help sell some of Compaq's NonStop eBusiness offerings, such as integration, infrastructure and outsourcing services.

In a prepared statement, Steve Mahoney, Compaq's vice president of application integration services, said Click "has a winning record at the enterprise level ... and proven extranet solutions in key markets where Compaq is strengthening its presence."

Mahoney also said that Compaq's financial investment in Click supports Compaq's strategy to promote e-business services, a key in the company's financial turnaround.

Knowledge management news

In a separate announcement, Compaq also announced today the launch of a new Knowledge Management assessment service, which it is debuting at the KM World conference in Dallas this week.

The new service is set up to help customers, working with Compaq consultants, design and implement a knowledge management system for their organization.

The KM service will be available through Compaq's Enterprise Solutions and Services group.

Compaq, of Houston, can be reached at www.compaq.com. Click Interactive, of Chicago, can be reached at www.clickinteractive.com.
