Compaq preps £149 videophone

Compaq today became the first PC vendor in the UK to release a videophone based on Intel's ProShare.

The firm will make the Compaq Videophone a £149 option on its Pentium MMX-based Presario line of consumer PCs from March.

In a press release, Lisa Clark, senior product marketing manager for consumer products at Compaq, described it as "a technology designed to bring people closer together" and said that the MMX multimedia-optimised instruction set would help improve sound and video quality.
