Google tweaks enterprise portfolio; Adds features to custom search

Google on Thursday launched Google Site Search, a hosted custom search service that rides shot-gun with its other enterprise products--Google Search Appliance and Google Mini.

Google Site Search (statement, backgrounder, blog post) is really the rebranding of the search giant's custom search product rolled out in 2006. In a blog post, Google said its Site Search service builds on Google Customer Search.

The company is positioning Site Search as a cloud computing effort that can get businesses custom searches in about 10 minutes. Site Search features:

  • More index coverage;
  • Synonym additions;
  • Results biasing;
  • And customization.

Google Site Search will cost site owners $100 a year for 5,000 pages.
