BANGALORE, India--Infosys Technologies Ltd., one of India's biggest software companies, said on Monday computer hackers had infiltrated its Web site and disrupted its banking products site.

"We realized it this afternoon. One section of the Web site, the banking unit, was hacked," an Infosys spokeswoman told Reuters.

She said the site that was infiltrated contained information about its software products for the banking industry.

The spokeswoman said the company had taken steps to restore the Web site and was investigating the cause of the hacking, but it was too early to comment on the identity of the hackers.

Infosys, which employs about 9,000 software engineers, has its headquarters in Bangalore, India's technology capital.

Pro-Pakistan hackers have in the past broken into Indian Web sites, usually with slogans or statements criticizing Indian policies on Kashmir, the Himalayan zone disputed by Islamabad. --Reuters.
