International Polar Year

The Internation Polar Year is done. And there's now a glacier of data to be analyzed. One thing the scientists learned: the ice flows at a much higher rate in the Arctic than previously known. That's part of the reason Arctic ice is melting faster than in earlier decades.

One of the biggest obstacles for the scientists of IPY: creating a global, useful data base so future research can use thre IPY information as a baseline.
