iPad 3G may still show up this month

Some users who pre-ordered an iPad 3G are receiving notice of their credit cards being charged. Could it still ship this month?

The Apple Store now states that if you buy an iPad 3G today, it will ship on May 7th. This led many to think that the new ship date for all iPad 3G devices would be May 7th, but apparently that's not the case.

We heard from a reader who was charged today for a 64GB iPad 3G that he pre-ordered. If history repeats itself, he should be receiving notice of his iPad shipping within 24 hours, which means that his iPad should arrive next week some time.

We did some digging and it sounds like Engadget has also confirmed that the iPad 3G could ship out this month, as originally planned.

I've been writing a lot about my iPad usage since it arrived, and I'm still undecided on what role it's really designed to play in my life. That said, it's a great device to have and I've been reading a number of accounts by users who have successfully used one as a laptop replacement. Perhaps my computing needs are too involved for me to be able to get away with the iPad as my primary work machine?

Are you waiting for your iPad 3G to arrive? What made you purchase one?

UPDATE: Justin (our reader who we mentioned above) sent along a screenshot of the Apple charges.

UPDATE 2: As we suspected, Apple has now confirmedthat pre-ordered iPad 3G models will be delivered on Friday, April 30. In addition, the company has stated that the iPad 3G will be available in stores on April 30th, beginning at 5pm.
