Hefty fines could be levied against Internet music company MP3.com after a New York court ruled on Friday that it had violated copyright laws with its My.MP3.com service. Fines in the case could start at $750 million, if the San Diego, Calif. company is subject to traditional penalties. With a minimum penalty of $750 and a maximum of $150,000, the fines for MP3.com could total as 'low' as $1.2 billion and as high as $240 billion. Meeting such fees would be impossible for a company whose stock plummeted almost 40 percent to $4.63 on Friday. Full story to follow. -- Robert Lemos, ZDNet News
