Orchid makes arcade gaming breakthrough

Orchid has begun shipping Righteous 3D, a graphics card that boosts performance by using games arcade technology and skipping 2D image rendering.
Written by Martin Veitch, Contributor

The first card based on the 3Dfx Interactive Voodoo Graphics chipset, the Righteous 3D uses technology used by Mortal Kombat developer Williams Entertainment but supports key PC APIs including Microsoft's Direct3D. While all other 3D cards also take care of standard graphics routines, with the Orchid card 2D operations are handled by the original graphics card.

The Righteous 3D is bundled with seven games including optimised versions of MechWarrior 2 and Actua Soccer '96: Semi-finals 3D at a list price of £199 + VAT. 4Mb of EDO RAM is standard.

Orchid can be contacted by telephone on 01256-817722.
