California, US-based Quarterdeck, best known for its QEMM memory manager, has been hungry for acquisitions over the last 18 months, picking up a series of utility and Internet software concerns.

San Francisco-based Vertisoft's flagship product is the Fix-It troubleshooting utility but the firm also sells the Remove-It uninstaller, Name-It long filename utility and Zip-It file compression utility.

Vertosoft sold direct mail-order in the US but Quarterdeck UK said it will use its orthodox channel mix. "This is an excellent acquisition for us," said Caroline Edney, director of marketing at the firm. "It fills the troubleshooting hole and complements our own WINProbe." Fix-It will be released within six weeks with Zip-It following shortly.

More details are available on the Quarterdeck Web site. Quarterdeck UK can be contacted by telephone on 01245-491190.
