Southern hospitality bids new welcome to e-cycling

Sometimes its the small victories that mean the most. Call2Recycle, a company that offers free recycling for mobile phones and rechargeable batteries, reports that e-cycling for batteries in particular is way up in several southern states. Here are the stats:

  • South Caroline (up 99 percent)
  • Kentucky (up 59 percent)
  • Arkansas (up 55 percent)
  • North Carolina (up 53 percent)
  • Mississippi (up 49 percent)

Unfortunately, battery recycling has slipped in California (off 7 percent), Minnesota (25 percent) and Vermont (off 3 percent). These states traditionally have been in the vanguard of technology recycling and collection efforts.

Truth be told, I'm not so certain we should read too much into the decline in those states. It could just be that people don't have much more to turn in.
