Toshiba just added a 400GB model to its range of 2.5-inch, 7,200 RPM drives targeted for notebook use.

The 9.5mm deep MK4058GSX model, as it's eloquently called, is also designed for low noise emissions, squeezing the extra storage onto just two platters and consuming 20% less power than its 320GB predecessor (a good statistic for laptop batteries everywhere, no doubt).

Apparently, the drive is also "green," whatever that means these days -- for Toshiba, indicating that the drive is low enough in chlorine and bromine to be recognized as the company's first 2.5-inch HDD "environmentally conscious product." Good to know that the little battery in your future laptop is constantly thinking about the world around it.

Right.

Nevertheless, the drive will start mass production in September, along with five more 7,200rpm HDDs.
