Livingston, which claims to be the largest rental group in Europe, said Hamilton was its biggest rival and gave it strength in Benelux countries and improved logistics for arranging software licensing throughout Europe.

A spokeman said the rental market was booming due to improved service and IT department fears regarding product lifecycles. "It's a similar situation to the way Hertz made car rental respectable; if you make it look good and act professionally, people are going to ask 'should I rent or should I buy'."
