Novatel Wireless on Tuesday unveiled its MiFi 2372 HSPA, the newest version of its Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, allowing for a portable Wi-Fi hotspot ("personal cloud") using 3G connectivity.

The MiFi 2372 can be used "virtually anywhere in the world" thanks to its support for HSPA, UMTS, EDGE and GPRS. In the U.S., it will be available on AT&T and T-Mobile.

Features of the MiFi include:

  • Data speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps downlink and 5.76 Mbps uplink, and includes Novatel's proprietary NovaSpeed technology, enhancing video, gaming, and large file transfer performance.

  • Inside, a "powerful" on-board applications processor, internal (ROM) storage, up to 16GB of expandable microSD memory and on-board GPS capabilities.

  • Open developer's community and downloadable MiFi applications programming interfaces and programmer guide via the Novatel Developer's Lounge.

  • Enterprise and consumer use. In the enterprise, extend and enhance mobile workforce solutions and better secure, control and manage broadband connections (and host vertical applications). At home, enjoy a "personal cloud."

No word on availability (it's not yet on either carrier's website) or price. To compare, the MiFi 2200 retails for $99.
