The folks at EWG have put together some information and research data to help we nearly powerless consumers at least try to avoid some of the worst chemicals we bring into our lives and our homes. You can find the EWG plastic guide here. Some simple tips: try to use glass rather than plastic when you can. Trade in your plastic water bottle for a metal one. Avoid plastics marked with 3 or 7, PV or PVC. Plastics with 1,2, 4 or 5 are probably safer. Don't put hot stuff in plastic. Yeah, that includes the microwave plastic-wrapped junk food we all crave.
