Acer to aquire E-TEN in recognition of converged device market

I just read over on Pocket PC Thoughts that Acer will be aquiring E-TEN in the third quarter of 2008. Acer has traditionally made stand alone PDAs while E-TEN is known for their high end touch screen Windows Mobile devices. Acer understands that the future is with converged devices and this move to aquire E-TEN makes sense. You may know E-TEN by their new branding of Glofiish.

I met with the E-TEN folks at Mobile World Congress 2008 and had a good look at their Windows Mobile Professional devices. I was impressed with their M800 device as it had a VGA display, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and 3.5G wireless radio in an attractive package. I actually told the president of our marine consulting company about E-TEN and he purchased their X650 and is extremely happy with the device. E-TEN is also well known for including several 3rd party utilities and applications on their devices.

With the global name of Acer and the combined resources of these two companies, I think we may see some exciting Windows Mobile products coming from them in the future.
