New HTC HD2 smartphone owners have another frill to look forward to with their purchases. Aircell has announced that they are offering six months of free in-flight Wi-Fi coverage with the newly-released HTC device.

Aircell, the company which has brought Wi-Fi coverage to the skies on most domestic airlines, will be offering the free service for six months, either valid from the date of registration or until June 30, 2011, whichever comes first.

Wi-Fi coverage on a long-haul flight is something that I'm already willing to pay for, even if it is on just a mobile device. And apparently I'm not alone as 30% of visitors access the Gogo Wi-Fi Portal from smartphones.

But even though it's a nice perk, it wouldn't be enough to entice me into buying an expensive device all on its own.
