Almost 100

I've been working on a project to document all of the major and most of the minor players in the virtualization software market as described in the Kusnetzky Group Model of virtualization software. If you're not familiar with these segments, this post describes them.

I've been working on a project to document all of the major and most of the minor players in the virtualization software market as described in the Kusnetzky Group Model of virtualization software. If you're not familiar with these segments, this post describes them. This means, of course, technology suppliers in the following markets:

  • Access virtualization
  • Application virtualization
  • Processing virtualization
  • Network virtualization
  • Storage virtualization
  • Security for virtualized resources
  • Management of virtualized resources

Believe it or not, my colleague and I have found nearly 100 different organizations working on one or more aspects of virtualization. While this situation is not like to continue forever, it is clear that virtualization, taken as a whole, was a dynamic, vibrant market in 2007.

Do you think that the suppliers have left some part of the waterfront uncovered? Which companies do you think are going to grow? Which will be acquired by others? Which will fail?
