Barnes and Noble has issued what the bookseller dubs as the "largest-ever update to Nook 3G and Nook Wi-Fi firmware," plus an upgrade for the Android app.

That large upgrade includes the following new features:

  • Sync current reading position across all devices with Nook software and apps
  • Customize folders and group content for My B&N Library with My Shelves feature
  • Password protection option for purchases made on a Nook device
  • Pass code security for the Nook each time the device powers on and awakens from Sleep Mode

Furthermore, the update promises 50% faster page turns, which should appease many owners as that has been one of the biggest complaints with the Nook. Other improvements have been focused on the search function and maximizing battery life.

The updated Nook for Android app now lets users take notes and make highlights in their NOOKbooks.

The Nook v1.5 software and Nook for Android v2.4 are both free updates and ready for downloading now.
