Social networking for your smartphone

LinkedIn has unveiled an app for BlackBerry smartphones, which allows its users to continue to build their professional networks when they are away from their desks.

The social networking company said the application is integrated with BlackBerrys' core communications applications so execs can use LinkedIn within their smartphone's existing email, calendar and contacts applications.

BlackBerry fans can use the app to search LinkedIn profiles, manage their LinkedIn inboxes, post network updates, add new connections and send out invitations.

The app is available now for the BlackBerry Tour, Curve and Bold series of smartphones.

The free app can be found here and on BlackBerry App World, and works with devices running on BlackBerry OS 4.3 or later, although full integration of the app with native BlackBerry applications requires BlackBerry OS 4.6 or later.

LinkedIn, which has 60 million members around the world, already offers mobile versions for the iPhone and Palm Pre.
