Car sharing just got a little cooler. Beginning today, car2go members will now have access to all car2go vehicles across the country - including cities like Austin, San Diego, Washington, D.C., Portland, and later this month, Miami.

This means that car2go members can now use the service even when traveling away from their home cities. The announcement also applies to car2go members in Canada, who will now be able to use the membership in other Canadian cities as well. The company hopes to bring country-to-country access to its members by the end of this year.

"Step by step, we are making it possible for our members to have access to a car2go in every car2go city worldwide," said Nicholas Cole, President & CEO of car2go North America, owned by the Daimler North American Corporation. "As we continue to expand into more cities within the United States and around the world, we are working to make carsharing more flexible for our members."

Car2go currently has more than 50,000 members in North America, and more than 120,000 around the world. It operates more than 1,300 smart fortwo cars in 12 cities: Austin, Texas; Vancouver, British Columbia; San Diego, California; Washington, D.C.; Portland, Oregon; Toronto, Ontario; Ulm, Germany; Hamburg, Germany; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Vienna, Austria;Dusseldorf, Germany; and Berlin, Germany. While the car sharing service is only available in five U.S. cities, a national car sharing program would make renting a car in a different city a much more accessible option, especially as car2go expands to additional locations.
