Singapore, 24 January 2000 - Cathay Pacific Airways, one of Asia's leading carriers, will be deploying Attachmate Corporation's e-Vantage Web-to-host solutions for the company's corporate intranet.

The solutions will enable as many as 7,000 Cathay Pacific employees worldwide from flight attendants and operations personnel to management, to access the company's internal network - from anywhere in the world - for a wide range of information from corporate news updates to travel benefits.

"We required a one-vendor solution for all our mainframe access needs," said Jessica Cheung, manager of IT planning and architecture at Cathay Pacific. "Attachmate provides us with a solution that will enable our staff to access our mainframe systems - any time, anywhere - via the Web. We expect to standardize on Attachmate host access solutions across our organisation this year."

Attachmate solutions, installed at Cathay Pacific's regional headquarters at Hong Kong International Airport, include EXTRA! Personal Client and InfoConnect, which deliver real-time access to information residing on the company's IBM and Unisys mainframes.

"In today's global business, leading-edge companies are deploying Web-to-host solutions to empower their staff with powerful self-service applications," said Hau Shi Yau, Attachmate's general manager for Southeast Asia. "Attachmate provides the most integrated, comprehensive host access and management solutions and services to enable companies to effectively evolve their business to Web."

Attachmate has been providing host access and management solutions to Cathay Pacific over the last seven years to support backend processing. Its new solutions, which will run on Windows NT and Windows 98 under Java environments, deliver host information to any personal computer in the frontline and present it in familiar, user-friendly Windows.

This new project represents Attachmate's single biggest order in Asia to date. Cathay Pacific has been using Attachmate's solutions along with 3,270 products from OpenConnect and Eicon Technology running under various platforms but, by this year, the airline plans to standardize on Attachmate solutions to access its IBM and Unisys mainframes.

"Cathay Pacific's choice of Attachmate affirms the reliability of our Web-to-host solutions which are already used by other large customers around the world," added Hau. "This win significantly strengthens our market leadership in the Web-to-host market in Asia."

Founded in 1946, Cathay Pacific flies to 47 destinations in 28 countries and territories. The company is publicly listed in Hong Kong and is jointly owned by Swire Pacific and CITIC Pacific. For the fiscal year ending 31 December 1998, the company's turnover reached HK$26.7 billion.
