in brief A professional body has been launched to give Australia's senior IT executives the skills needed to become more business savvy.

The CIO Institute of Australia formally launched its Victorian chapter yesterday, with the Sydney chapter set to officially open its doors tomorrow.

Danny Davis, the CIO Institute's executive director, said the body's goal was to help create the next generation of business leaders from today's technology managers.

"CIOs need to take on an enabling role and work 'in' the business by concentrating on executing and improving the business's current capabilities," Davis said.

The institute will focus on a number of key areas including continuing professional development, training and certification, business alignment and executive development.
