Citrix says the application will enable users to run existing enterprise applications on iPhone while maintaining control of corporate data and intellectual property. Businesses will be able to quickly and securely leverage their existing Citrix XenApp infrastructure to tap into the power of an agile and productive mobile workforce, the company says.
A lightweight software client, Citrix Receiver takes advantage of the iPhone/iPod touch's multitouch capabilities to offer the ability to zoom, pan, click and scroll within documents. Using "Doc Finder," it also provides one-click access to documents stored on the corporate network. Users can find, view, edit, save and send business documents from their iPhone and iPod touch.
Since documents are stored in the datacenter and delivered over a secure encrypted link, data and applications are secure.
Mobile professionals who previously could not access full-featured Windows applications from anything but a laptop will now be able to experience true mobility. Lawyers can review and edit briefs, executives can update PowerPoint presentations and physicians can access patient records or view X-rays directly from the palm of their hand, whether they are in court, sitting in an airport or away from the hospital.
Citrix's App Viewer technology helps create mobile-friendly views of enterprise applications, and includes industry standard development tools to create custom views of pre-packaged and custom enterprise applications.
Citrix has also created a public demo environment that is available to any iPhone or iPod touch user once the application is downloaded from Apple's iTunes store.
