Citrix's Next XenApp due in first half, webcast this week

Citrix will detail this week the next generation of its application virtualization product currently known as XenApp for the Windows Server 2008 R2.The tech preview, which was released in mid December, will be featured in a company webcast on Wednesday.

Citrix will detail this week the next generation of its application virtualization product currently known as XenApp for the Windows Server 2008 R2.

The tech preview, which was released in mid December, will be featured in a company webcast on Wednesday. It is expected to ship in the first half of this year.

The next XenApp will offer support for more users, faster logons and smartphones and integration with Active Directory group policies. It will also feature support for HDX Realtime audio, Microsoft OCS and softphone support, self service application delivery and new Receivers for Smartphones, Citrix has said.

According to the Citrix description, XenApp will feature:

"New enterprise-class management features like a single management console with seamless integration with Active Directory group policies, simplified role based install and PowerShell SDK

• How new HDX technologies enable you to deliver A/V conferencing using Microsoft Office Communicator, broaden application and device compatibility and improve logon performance by streaming windows profiles on demand

• How new on-demand application delivery technology continues to expand your options for delivering apps to your users."
