Compaq prepares LAN hardware push

Compaq will kick off its push into networking hardware next week when it announces what it calls the networking industry's first Intel-based, industry-standard router. The product is based on Cisco's IOS technology,The PC giant will also lay out its internetworking product strategy covering switches and controller cards.

Compaq US this week rolled out a LAN kit for novices. Called Compaq GroupWise, the kit includes 5-user vesrions of Novell's GroupWise 4.1 and Cheyenne fax software. It will be given away with 5-, 10-, or 25-user licences for NetWare 4.1 when bought through Compaq SmartStart.
