To Moley, XWJ and others who might have been following the recent discussion of GRUB installation for Karmic, I have learned through a comment on my other blog that there is in fact a way to control whether and where GRUB will be installed during installation of Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Alpha. On the final screen of the installation dialog, "Ready To Install", there is an "Advanced" button at the bottom right of the window. Click that, and you can select whether to install GRUB at all or not, and if so where to install it. I just tried this by re-installing Karmic on my S6510, and it worked just fine. I told it to install to the Karmic partition, and it did that and left my MBR instact. Good news!
