Evernote has set up an office in Taipei to work more closely with local app developers, riding on the fast-growing adoption of its note-taking app in Taiwan. It will also partner Taiwan Mobile to offer the service to subscribers.

In a Central News Agency (CNA) report Thursday, Evernote CEO Phil Libin said even though Taiwan currently has 500,000 Evernote users--making up 2 percent of the total user base--it has been one of the fastest-growing markets in recent months.

Taipei will be the company's fourth Asian office after China, South Korea, and Japan. Its other offices are in California and Texas in the United States, Switzerland, and Russia. The Taipei team will reach out to the local developer community to create new services and apps for Evernote, which will then be distributed worldwide, Libin shared.

"We think the definition of a global company is a company whose products are made everywhere in the world. They are inspired everywhere in the world. That's the kind of global company we are inspired to be," the CEO said in the report.

Taiwan Mobile signs on
Evernote also announced a partnership with local carrier Taiwan Mobile to provide the latter's subscribers one year of free access to the note-taking service provider's premium service. The offer is available from now until Sep. 30, CNA noted.

The company had previously inked similar deals with France's Orange and Japan's NTT Docomo.

Cliff Lai, co-president of Taiwan Mobile, said in the CNA report he expects 2 million of the telco's 7 million customers to sign up for the Evernote service.

The U.S. currently has the biggest share of Evernote users at 33 percent, followed by 20 percent in Japan, 16 percent in Europe, 6 percent in China, and 5 percent in both South Korea and Latin America, according to the company.

Last Friday, at its conference in San Francisco, Evernote introduced the enterprise version of its app service called Evernote Business, which will be launched this December.
