I've had a few niggling problems with installing Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR) on my Acer Aspire One -- namely, that Maximus is included by default and I've found it tricky to turn off.
Maximus is a small app that maximises every new window that you open. The idea is to make the most of your limited screen estate on your netbook. Personally, though, I prefer the flexibility of Alt+F10 to maximise a window manually.
The problem is that the default menu system with UNR doesn't include the System > Preferences > Sessions shortcut. I tried uninstalling Maximus using the Synaptic Package Manager but this caused no end of dependency problems and failed uninstallations. My way round it was to install GNOME Do (use the latest version as it's way better), and then type in Sessions. Voila. As they say across the channel. But not everywhere across the channel.
Also, just worth pointing out that UNR is based on Hardy Heron 8.04, not the latest Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Ubuntu. Seems nice and stable so far, though may need some tweaking.
