'Flip,' 3G 'Bold' Blackberrys announced
The Flip is a quad-band EDGE based device that features two high-resolution color displays packaged in a compact "flip"-style smartphone. Messages, Web pages and videos are displayed on the large, 240 by 320-pixel internal LCD screen, while the external display allows users to preview incoming messages and calls without opening the handset. The Pearl Flip’s enhanced HTML browser displays Web pages in “Column View” or “Page View” and also gives users the option of viewing pages in desktop-style HTML content or the mobile version.
Other Flip features include: SureType technology; built-in Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) with support for UMA; DataViz Documents to Go software suite for editing Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files; 2 megapixel camera with flash, zoom and video capture; an external microSD/SDHC memory card slot; BlackBerry Maps and support for RTSP for watching online streaming video.
The BlackBerry Pearl Flip will be available in the United States exclusively from T-Mobile beginning this fall.
As for the Bold, a leaked internal AT&T press release discovered by The Boy Genius Report indicates that the black-and-chrome device will house a 480 by 320-pixel, half-VGA color display and a full QWERTY keyboard, as well as built-in GPS and Wi-Fi, a 624 MHz mobile processor rated at "twice the processing speed" of previous Blackberrys, 1GB of memory and desktop-style Web browsing.
The Bold is reported to sell for $299.99 on, naturally, AT&T.
