Ford Fusion HYbrid, courtresy: Ford Motor. A Ford Fusion Hyrbid, unmodified and right off the showroom floor, has been driven nearly 1500 miles on a single tank of gas. That's 81.5 MPG. The Fusion ran nearly three days with a team of highly-trained drivers using every fuel-saving trick known to hyrbrid drivers. Coast up to a stop sign or a turn from one road to another. Use engine braking when going down a steep decline. No rabbit starts. Avoid using the heater or air conditioner if possible. Don't start you engine until you're ready to roll.

“Not only does this demonstrate the Fusion Hybrid’s fuel efficiency, it also shows that driving technique is one of the keys to maximizing its potential,” said Nancy Gioia, director, Ford Sustainable Mobility Technologies and Hybrid Vehicle Programs. Drivers' Ed used to be all about the laws and safety. Time to throw in a little advice on efficient driving?

Here's Ford's press release on the record run.
