Forget Gore, remember this name: Roderick Bremby

Sure Gore has talked a lot about global warming, earning a Nobel Pirze and infuriating his nay-sayers. But what has he actually done? Well, now one Roderick Bremby has leap-frogged to the top of any list of American global warming activists.

Mr. Bremby is Kansas's state secretary of health and enviornment. And for what is probably the first time in U.S. history he stopped construction of a new coal-burning power plant...based...here it comes: on CO2. In the past some coal plants have been nixed because of sulphur dioxide or other polluting emissions. But never before has CO2 emission been cited. This, of course, will be appealed by the utilities involved and eventually fought out in court. There's a lot at stake here. Global warming as legal precedent, growth of coal industry could be stymied, Kansas could become poster-child of global warming activism in the U.S. If this ruling stands it could spur morre renewable energy use. Fossil fuel folks won't like that one bit. What's wrong with Kansas, indeed.
