Google announced on Monday support for podcasts within its Google Play Music service, as it looks to take on competitors Spotify and Apple in the audio streaming space.

The new podcast feature is available on Android through an update to the Google Play Music app, and the web, for US users.

Unfortunately for iOS users, Google didn't detail when, or if, it's planning support for the iOS version of Play Music.

Google has created a portal content creators can submit their podcast to, alongside big names like Dave Ramsey, Leo Laporte's TWiT, Bill Simmons, and more.

Further, Google has several contextual playlists to match your listening mood "based on what you're doing, how you're feeling and what you're interested in," Google explained in a blog post.

Podcast support for Play Music was a long time in the making. Streaming competitor Spotify rolled out a similar podcast feature earlier this year. Apple, on the other hand, has been instrumental in the rise of the podcast medium since 2005.
