Oracle are announcing the ability to drill down into sensitive behind-the-firewall data via gadgets securely embedded in Google Sites web pages powered by Google Secure Data Connectors (GSDC).

If that last sentence was a mouthful, think of it this way: where we rely heavily on VPN today to connect with rich contextual Oracle information behind your firewall, Oracle allows you to expose and access this same information in your browser using GSDC.

This approach opens the door to the next-generation SaaS applications serving information from Seibel 6 and forward securely via the Google cloud platform. The number one priority for Oracle is security and they are saying very positive things about the integrity of Google's infrastructure.

This close collaboration between Oracle and Google enables customers to build and deploy Oracle gadgets in Google Sites allowing easy and seamless scaling of applications to several million users.

These 'Gooracle' widgets (that's my nickname, not theirs) appear more than symbiotic - there is great value in the broader third party ecosphere around Oracle Social CRM benefiting from mashups of contextual content.

Mobile sales people who know all about trying to vpn into complicated enterprise systems in their rental cars outside prospect offices and drilling down through several screens of CRM to find what they want, should be delighted with this development.

It should now be possible for their support to build sophisticated widgets without speaking fluent Siebelise using Oracle Gadget Wizard for Google Apps, bringing a new level of flexibility to their deep data. The quality of Google's SDC encryption should appease any concerns security conscious IT police have and also take some pressure off them to keep the information flowing.

Combine this functionality with Oracle Social CRM and you've got the makings of a whole new generation of flexibility built around the deep underpinnings of your existing company data.
